Softball Preview: Odem Owls vs. Taft Greyhounds
The Odem Owls will head out to take on the Taft Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Odem is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Odem fell victim to Ingleside and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 9-0 to the Mustangs. The Owls have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Taft). They blew past West Oso 19-4 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Greyhounds sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Josette Aparicio made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Juliana Alaniz was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5. Ansleigh Soliz was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Taft always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .533 or higher in three consecutive games.
Odem's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Taft, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 12-7.
