Basketball Recap: Morrill Comes Up Short

Morrill has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were beaten by the Mitchell Tigers 66-35 on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-34 back in December of 2024.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Wyler Fisher, who posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Ashwin Pittman, who put up 14 points and three blocks.

Mitchell was led to victory by Aiden Hoehn and London Beck. Hoehn had 12 points, while Beck scored nine points. The dominant performance also gave Beck a new career-high in assists (three). Norman Coley was another key player, putting up six points.

Morrill's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Mitchell, their record now sits at 10-12.

Morrill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 44-39 loss against Hemingford on the 11th. Mitchell will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Kimball at 5:30 p.m. on February 21st. Kimball is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.9 points per game this season.
