Softball Recap: Central Victorious

After losing to Lincoln Park Academy the last time they met, Central decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cobras came out on top against the Greyhounds by a score of 9-6 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cobras.

Paislyn Ankiel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Sparkman, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Pena-Romero, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Central's record is now 5-12. As for Lincoln Park Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14-1.

Central has already played their next contest, a 15-3 defeat against Centennial on the 28th. As for Lincoln Park Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-1 loss against Cardinal Newman on the 27th.
