Basketball Recap: Vance Hayes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Depue over Leland

DePue was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 60-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Leland Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 66-48 back in December of 2024.

DePue's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vance Hayes, who posted 21 points. The contest was Hayes' third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Martin Quintana, who scored 14 points.

DePue's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Leland, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12.

DePue didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-41 defeat against Earlville on the 1st. As for Leland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 68-44 win against Hiawatha on the 1st.
