Shorecrest hasn't had much luck against Edmonds-Woodway recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Scots will welcome the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Shorecrest turned things around against Lynnwood on Wednesday. They blew past the Royals 27-4. The Scots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Chloe Gurnee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riu Hanrahan, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Lyla Ann Taing was another key player, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
Shorecrest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .792. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Edmonds-Woodway waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 9-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Shorecrest, Edmonds-Woodway also got a great game from a two-way player: Ella Campbell. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Campbell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Noa Gillespie was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ellie Alderson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Edmonds-Woodway's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Shorecrest, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 4-8.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Shorecrest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. However, it's not like Edmonds-Woodway struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shorecrest suffered a grim 16-10 defeat to Edmonds-Woodway in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Scots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
