Softball Recap: Northwestern Victorious

Northwestern got themselves on the board against Manchester on Wednesday, but Manchester never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Squires 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since April 14th.

Manchester's batters probably weren't too happy with Bailey Marcus, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Marcus has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Northwestern's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leah Turffs, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That double was Turffs' first of the season. Another was Tessa Ortman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Northwestern's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10. As for Manchester, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwestern will host Tipton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.21 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Manchester, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Whitko at 5:30 p.m.
