Football Game Preview: Wayne Christian Eagles vs. Washington County Panthers + Official Tickets

The Wayne Christian Eagles will square off against the Washington County Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Wayne Christian came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were beaten by Trinity Christian 47-3. The contest marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington County). They blew past North Edgecombe 53-0 on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won three games in a row.

A big part of Washington County's victory came down to the chemistry between Christian Phelps and his top target Keitrell Sutton. Phelps gained 70 total yards and two touchdowns while Sutton picked up 60 receiving yards and one score. What's more, Phelps racked up 20 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in August of 2024. Ishawn Fuller made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Washington County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Sutton and Fuller. Ty Quez Selby was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making five total tackles.

Wayne Christian now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Washington County, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Wayne Christian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 151.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Washington County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 188.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
