Volleyball Recap: New Hanover Starts Season with Win at Home

New Hanover gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Whiteville Wolfpack as they made off with a 3-0 victory. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 3-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

The final score came out to 25-12, 25-19, 25-12.

Maddie Sawyer paced New Hanover's offense, picking up nine kills. Sawyer got some help from Maille Smith and her 26 assists. Smith was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Hanover will head out to face off against New Bern at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Whiteville, they will venture away from home to challenge North Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
