Softball Game Preview: Fillmore Eagles vs. Arkport Central Bluejays

Fillmore has gone a perfect 5-0 against Arkport Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Bluejays at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Fillmore proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 16) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cuba-Rushford, sneaking past 11-9. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Rebels on their field since May 8, 2019.

Mylee Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Fillmore got a massive performance out of Morghyn Ross, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, Ross is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Tenlee Miller was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Arkport Central put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Canisteo-Greenwood by a score of 11-6.

Arkport Central's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Fillmore, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Fillmore skirted past Arkport Central 10-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bluejays turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
