The Gilmour Academy Lancers will square off against the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Saturday, Gilmour Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away North Royalton. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bears 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lancers have posted since May 3, 2024.
Camden Dreiling spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ava Gundling was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Pike, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Olmsted Falls had just enough and edged out Magnificat 7-6 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
MOLLY SHEEHAN made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MADILYNN SARASUA, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was TAYLOR VAVRO, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Olmsted Falls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Gilmour Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Olmsted Falls, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
Gilmour Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. The Lancers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Olmsted Falls, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Gilmour Academy continue to outrun the ball?
