Football Game Preview: Burkeville Mustangs vs. Legacy Christian Academy Warriors

The Burkeville Mustangs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Legacy Christian Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Friday, Burkeville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 38-32 to Northland Christian. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Burkeville saw an underclassman step up: freshman JaDerrick Ballard rushed for 56 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, and also threw for 49 yards and one TD. Ballard's superb passer rating of 177.1 also marked a new season-high. Another player making a difference was Marlon Jackson, who threw for 124 yards and one touchdown while completing 75% of his passes.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Burkeville, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ira Waddy, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Legacy Christian Academy blew past Baytown Christian, posting a 57-20 victory. That looming 57-20 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

The win made it two in a row for Legacy Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points over those games. As for Burkeville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Burkeville didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Legacy Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 58-53 win.
