Basketball Recap: Grovetown Takes a Loss

Grovetown lost against Newton back in November of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Grovetown Warriors had to suffer through a 89-62 loss at the hands of the Newton Rams. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Rams are ranked sixth).

Despite the loss, Grovetown saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Marcus Curry went 8 for 16 en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Dj Postell, who posted 15 points.

Grovetown has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for Newton, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grovetown will face off against Archer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Grovetown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season. As for Newton, they will square off against Rockdale County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
