Basketball Recap: Nick Hurst's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lawson over West Platte

Lawson lost against West Platte back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lawson Cardinals fell just short of the West Platte Bluejays by a score of 48-46. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 379th, while the Bluejays are ranked 171st).

Lawson's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Hurst, who posted eight points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Isaac Willoughby, who had nine points.

Lawson's loss dropped their record down to 8-14. As for West Platte, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cardinals face off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for West Platte, they will take on DeKalb at 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
