Softball Recap: Athens' Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Athens walked away with it. They came out on top against the Central Columbia Bluejays by a score of 4-1 on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Gretchan Hiley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Athens' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gretchen Schmieg, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Athens' victory bumped their record up to 21-1. As for Central Columbia, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.

As of now, neither Athens nor the Bluejays have any future games scheduled.
