Baseball Recap: Cushing Academy Takes a Loss

Cushing Academy had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Lawrence Academy Spartans by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Penguins have suffered since March 31st.

As for Lawrence Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3. Three seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Lawrence Academy's part, they got a great performance from Logan Forgie as he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Forgie has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Charlie Beauregard, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cushing Academy will square off against Deerfield Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Big Green's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Penguins' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lawrence Academy, they will face off against Roxbury Latin at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Spartans 3.8, the Foxes 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
