Recap: Palo Duro Dons vs. Canutillo Eagles
The Palo Duro Dons and the Canutillo Eagles squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Palo Duro Dons had to settle for second. Palo Duro's tough 28-7 loss to Canutillo might stick with them for a while. Having soared to a lofty 41 points in the game before, Palo Duro couldn't push the score so high this time.
Canutillo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rene Huerta, who rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Jeremiah Knox also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Palo Duro has yet to win a match on the road this season, leaving them with a 4-6 record. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Canutillo, Wylie, and Rider. As for Canutillo, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Palo Duro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Canutillo will face off against Emerson at TBD on Friday. Emerson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Canutillo likes a good challenge.
