Baseball Game Preview: Avon Old Farms Beavers vs. Kingswood Oxford Wyverns

Avon Old Farms has won five straight games at home, while Kingswood Oxford has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Beavers will welcome the Wyverns at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Avon Old Farms 2.4, Kingswood Oxford 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Avon Old Farms proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by seven) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Westminster School 4-3. The victory continues a trend for the Beavers in their matchups with the Martlets: they've now won five in a row.

Meanwhile, while Kingswood Oxford put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Hotchkiss School. The Wyverns blew past the Bearcats 11-0. The result was nothing new for the Wyverns, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kingswood Oxford got a great performance from Harry Engle as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Engle has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Colton Bowes, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was John Sokale, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Kingswood Oxford's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Avon Old Farms, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
