Softball Recap: Chesterton Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Chesterton entered their tilt with La Porte on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Slicers a 10-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-3 on April 8th.

Payton Cherep made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Jillienne Pittman was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Lila Miller was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs.

Chesterton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Chesterton's record now sits at 8-4. As for La Porte, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Chesterton and La Porte should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Trojans (ranked 72nd) will meet Hebron (ranked 302nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, La Porte will take on Michigan City at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (138 vs. 309).
