Softball Game Preview: Tonopah Muckers vs. Round Mountain Knights

After both having extra time off, the Tonopah Muckers and the Round Mountain Knights will shake off the rust and duke it out at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tonopah knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Round Mountain likes a good challenge.

Tonopah came up short against Indian Springs last Tuesday, falling 24-17. The Muckers have struggled against the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Jacy Kiersch stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kyryn Bland-Russell, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Round Mountain had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six last Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Thunderbirds. 17 seems to be a good number for the Knights as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Round Mountain pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Tonopah, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
