Baseball Recap: Walnut Grove Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Walnut Grove had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eastside Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Jarrod Cook was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Branson Blalock was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 matches. Davis Hunt was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Walnut Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastside only managed five hits.

Walnut Grove's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Eastside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

Walnut Grove and Eastside could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. Walnut Grove (ranked 104th) will meet North Oconee (ranked 18th) at 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Eastside will take on East Forsyth at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 215 places (271 vs. 56).
