Volleyball Recap: Fruitport Trojans vs. Mona Shores Sailors

Fruitport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mona Shores Sailors. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Sailors when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Fruitport sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 19-25, 15-6.

Tanner Cappema paced Fruitport's offense, picking up four kills. Cappema really made an impact as he also led the team in assists with four. Lane Raap controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Fruitport's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Fruitport and Mona Shores will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time Fruitport sees the court they'll take on Spring Lake at 6:00 p.m. on the 16th. As for Mona Shores, their break will end when they face Fruitport at 8:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
