Baseball Game Preview: Del Norte Knights vs. Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars

Del Norte is 2-8 against Atrisco Heritage Academy since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Knights will head out to face off against the Jaguars at 10:00 a.m. Del Norte has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Del Norte lost 24-4 to Albuquerque Academy on Friday. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Atrisco Heritage Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against West Mesa on Friday. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 16-6 win. The Jaguars have beaten the Mustangs the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Mustangs has come to flipping the script.

Atrisco Heritage Academy got a great performance from Estevan Flores as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Flores a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Ignacio Quintana was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samuel Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple.

Atrisco Heritage Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Mesa only posted a batting average of .286.

Del Norte's loss dropped their record down to 2-16-1. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, their record now sits at 7-14.

Del Norte suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Atrisco Heritage Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
