Softball Recap: Woodbridge Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Woodbridge dropped their record down to 10-9-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rosary Academy Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 on April 7th.

Audrey Song was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Payton Harris was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

As for Rosary Academy, they pushed their record up to 22-2-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On Rosary Academy's side, Daleah Cardenas and Ava Phillips dominated on the mound. Cardenas tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Phillips tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Cardenas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hayden Huerta, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Caldera, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Woodbridge and Rosary Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Warriors will face off against Northwood at 3:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (223 vs. 568). Meanwhile, Rosary Academy (ranked 14th) will meet Irvine (ranked 449th) at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
