Basketball Game Preview: Lexington Minutemen vs. Rochester Rockets

The Lexington Minutemen will square off against the Rochester Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lexington comes in on five and Rochester on six.

Lexington picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They came out on top against Seneca by a score of 52-44. The 52-point effort marked the Minutemen's lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Lexington's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Coffman, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Coffman a new career-high in points. Blaine Friedmansky was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Lexington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Rochester hadn't done well against Sterling recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Rochester walked away with a 74-66 win over Sterling. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Golden Warriors are ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rochester is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points per game. As for Lexington, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
