Sunray had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 5-8 to make it five. They fell 14-11 to the Highland Park Hornets. The Bobcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 16-10.
Lexi Gomez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayde Andujo, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
As for Highland Park, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-11. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.8 runs.
On Highland Park's side, Kaitlin Lucas made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Lucas has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Haley Rogers was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with seven RBI, two triples, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Alexis Perez was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Sunray has already played their next game (against West Texas), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Highland Park, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-3 loss against Gruver on the 2nd.
