Basketball Recap: Sacred Heart Picks Up Tenth Straight Win at Home

Sacred Heart had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 45-39 W against the Northwest Mustangs. Given the Gremlins' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 190th, while the Mustangs are ranked 489th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sacred Heart's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points over those games. As for Northwest, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sacred Heart will head out to square off against Smithton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northwest, they are taking a road trip to challenge Crest Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Crest Ridge has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
