Baseball Recap: Howe's Win Ends Nine-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Howe had lost nine games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 11-15 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the S & S Consolidated Rams. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rams, too.

Garren Lankford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Howe is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 8-14 otherwise. Lankford was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braden Ulmer, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Howe's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-15 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Rylan Strong, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Howe hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as S & S Consolidated struck out eight times.

As for S & S Consolidated, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

On S & S Consolidated's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nik Roseberry, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Major Milam also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Howe beat S & S Consolidated by a score of 10-0 later that day.
