Baseball Game Preview: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Chattanooga Christian Chargers

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will square off against the Chattanooga Christian Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Notre Dame has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 11.

Notre Dame fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Silverdale Academy on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Seahawks by a score of 5-4.

Notre Dame saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Garrett Sullivan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-5.

Meanwhile, Chattanooga Christian hadn't done well against McCallie recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over the Blue Tornado. Considering the Chargers have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Chattanooga Christian let Keegan Nieckula and Owen Brown run wild. Nieckula went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Brown scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Brown a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Petty, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Chattanooga Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Chattanooga Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
