Baseball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Mesa Verde Mavericks

The Kennedy Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Mesa Verde Mavericks at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Kennedy has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

It was a proper cat-fight when Kennedy took on Wood on Thursday. Kennedy came up short against Wood, falling 13-0. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kennedy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean Whitfield, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mesa Verde). They blew past Pierce 15-5 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.

Mason Nelson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Zahidullah Habibi, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Mesa Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mesa Verde's record is now 3-1. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
