Basketball Recap: Key West Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Key West Conchs were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 65-59 to the Hallandale Chargers.

When it comes to explaining why Key West lost, don't look at Josue Thanus. Despite the final result, he went 11 for 20 on his way to 25 points. The dominant performance gave Thanus a new career-high in points. David Aviles was another key player, putting up 15 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Key West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Key West has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Hallandale, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-15.

Key West has already played their next game (against Marathon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Hallandale will be playing in front of their home fans against ABF Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
