Softball Recap: West Carroll Thunder vs. River Ridge/Scales Mound Wildcats
West Carroll extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-20 in the process. They came up short against the River Ridge/Scales Mound Wildcats, falling 8-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 on Tuesday.
As for River Ridge/Scales Mound, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-14. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11th (when they won 15-6).
For River Ridge/Scales Mound's part, Elizabeth Rife was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Rife has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Anika Stadel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Katherine Bilderback, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Carroll will head out to take on Warren/Stockton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for River Ridge/Scales Mound, they will venture away from home to face off against Benton/Shullsburg at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
