Softball Recap: Spring Creek Comes Up Short

Spring Creek extended their losing streak to nine on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 10-17 in the process. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Churchill County Greenwave. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Greenwave this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 on Friday.

Ashlynn Sorenson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Hannah Montoya was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

As for Churchill County, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.

On Churchill County's side, Janessa Bettencourt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 11 Ks. Bettencourt has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dana Buckmaster, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sutton Yost, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Churchill County beat Spring Creek by a score of 15-0 later that day.
