Baseball Game Preview: Eunice Cardinals vs. Texico Wolverines

The Eunice Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Texico Wolverines at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Eunice is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Eunice came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 14-5 to Lovington. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Eunice saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luis Zamora, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Texico was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 16-15 heartbreaker at the hands of Tucumcari.

Hunter Bowman stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 4-for-6 with three doubles, four RBI, and one run. Edgar Mendoza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 4-for-5.

Eunice's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Texico, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Eunice has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Texico struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Eunice came out on top in a nail-biter against Texico in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
