Baseball Game Preview: Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish vs. Lincoln Mustangs

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory is a perfect 3-0 against Lincoln since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Fightin' Irish will face off against the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory turned things around against Menlo-Atherton on Monday. They came out on top against the Bears by a score of 10-7. Considering the Fightin' Irish's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

PJ Vigo looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Johnny Nepomuceno and Evan Liu did most of the damage at the plate: Nepomuceno scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Liu scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Liu a new career-high. Quinn Middleton was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lincoln entered their tilt with Balboa on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Buccaneers 13-3. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly ten runs.

Lincoln let Jerry Hou and Nicholas Chiu run wild. Hou scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Chiu scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Hou is becoming a predictor of Lincoln's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-10 when he doesn't). Kai Beckham also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's record is now 9-10. As for Lincoln, their record now sits at 7-10.
