Softball Recap: Monticello Snags Tenth Victory in Last 11 Games

There's no place like home for Monticello, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Fluvanna County Flying Flucos a 4-0 shutout on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-3 back in April.

Fluvanna County's batters probably weren't too happy with Madison Steppe, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 12 Ks (she gave up two walks). Steppe has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Torie Shifflett was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Willow Barr was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Monticello has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fluvanna County, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6.

Monticello does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fluvanna County, they will face off against Orange County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
