Eastern Mennonite piles up the points against Fishburne Military

Winning is just a little bit easier when you nail 13 more threes than your opponent, a fact the Eastern Mennonite Flames proved on Tuesday. They really took it to Fishburne Military for the full four quarters, racking up a 95-44 victory on the road. With that win, Eastern Mennonite brought their scoring average up to 63 points per game.

Eastern Mennonite was led to victory by William Gardner and Drew Hatter. Gardner went 9 for 17 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 0 assists, while Hatter dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hatter has scored at least 25% of Eastern Mennonite's points. Shawn Valentine was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 4 steals.

Several Caissons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Giovanni Belisle, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Allyn Koger, who scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.

The win makes it two in a row for Eastern Mennonite and bumps their season record up to 2-1. As for Fishburne Military, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.

Eastern Mennonite will look to defend their home court on Friday against Fork Union Military Academy at 7:00 p.m. Fork Union Military Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Eastern Mennonite is ranked 67th). As for Fishburne Military, they will head out on the road to face off against Virginia Episcopal School at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
