Football Recap: Fillmore Skates Past Santa Paula with Ease

Fillmore lost to Santa Paula back in November of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Flashes breezed past the Cardinals to the tune of 45-8. The Flashes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Jasiah Patterson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 141 yards and one score while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Saul Fraga was another key player, gaining 42 total yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Fillmore was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Paula only rushed for 71.

Fillmore's defense stepped up as well, laying out Rene Vega six times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Marcus Lechuga, Mathew Zavala, and Mauricio Ocegueda, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece. Lechuga was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making six total tackles (3.0 for loss).

The win made it two in a row for Fillmore and bumps their season record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 25 points in those games. As for Santa Paula, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Fillmore wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 16-7 loss against Cerritos on the 7th. As for Santa Paula, they have also already played their next contest, a 27-7 win against Ocean View on the 7th.
