Preview: Shawnee Golden Eagles vs. Whitefield Academy Wildcats

The Shawnee Golden Eagles are on the road again on Friday and plays the Whitefield Academy Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd.

After soaring to 63 points the game before, Shawnee were a bit more limited in their match last Wednesday. They were beaten by Danville Christian Academy 55-22. While losing is never fun, Shawnee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Warriors are ranked 31st).

In what's become a running theme this season, Whitefield Academy gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They blew past Jeffersontown 67-1 on the road. Whitefield Academy pushed the score to 50-1 by the end of the third, a deficit the Chargers had no chance of recovering from.

Whitefield Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sara Ritter, who scored 27 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ritter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Spieker, who scored 18 points along with five assists and five steals.

Shawnee's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Whitefield Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.

Shawnee didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Wildcats in their previous meeting back in December of 2019, but they still walked away with a 52-48 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shawnee since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
