Hughesville hasn't had much luck against Mount Carmel recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hughesville Spartans will head out to face off against the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Hughesville took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand Midd-West a 57-0 shutout. The Spartans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

A big part of Hughesville's win came down to the chemistry between Blake Davis and his top target Conor Knight. Davis threw for 231 yards and six touchdowns while Knight picked up 145 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Brenden Fisher was in the mix as well, providing Hughesville with two touchdowns.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Hughesville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.

Meanwhile, Mount Carmel came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 41-17 margin over the Warriors.

Jaylen Delaney was his usual excellent self, picking up 182 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. His longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards. Another player making a difference was Gavin Marshalek, who threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes.

Hughesville now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mount Carmel, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant wideouts against one another: Knight and Delaney. Knight has put up some stellar numbers this year, and currently owns excellent season averages 110.2 receiving yards per game this season. For his part, Delaney has averaged 122 receiving yards per game this season.

Hughesville was taken down by Mount Carmel 54-14 in their previous meeting back in October of 2023. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hughesville was down 28-7.
