Softball Recap: Crystal River Takes a Loss

Crystal River dropped down to 19-9 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Eustis Panthers by a score of 2-0. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 1-0.

Violet Flynn spent all 9.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.

As for Eustis, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games.

On Eustis' side, Crystal River's batters probably weren't too happy with Carson Roden, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up two walks).

On the hitting side, Eustis' victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Adrianna Covino, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Crystal River does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Eustis, they will take on Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 2.3, the Raiders 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
