Basketball Recap: Salmon Savages vs. Mackay Miners
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Jefferson, Salmon was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 53-44 win over the Mackay Miners. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 62-58 back in December of 2024.
Broc Matthews was a one-man wrecking crew for Salmon as he went 7 for 12 en route to 26 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Pilkerton, who posted ten points and four steals.
Despite the loss, Mackay still got an impressive performance from Kaizer Summers, who went 9 of 22 on his way to 24 points along with eight boards and three blocks. That was a full 54.5% of Mackay's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points.
Salmon's record now sits at 6-9. As for Mackay, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Salmon will venture away from home to take on Ririe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Ririe's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Salmon has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Mackay, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 47-43 victory against Richfield on the 25th.
