Vienna/Goreville moved up to 386 from 464 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Black Diamond. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of a 45-18 win over Elverado/Trico.
Carmi-White County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs defeated Fairfield 22-18.
Chester's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Cowan threw for 29 and one touchdown and Caleb Arbeiter had 29 yards receiving. On the ground Stephen Roth chipped in 116 yards.
The Yellowjackets' Cowan and Arbeiter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cowan has thrown for 383 yards this season, while Arbeiter, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 11 catches for 218 yards. The Mules' Dyllan Bailey leads the league in rushing yards with 603.
A big matchup in Black Diamond this week will be when Eldorado takes on Johnston City. As it stands, the Eagles are in third, while the Indians are in fourth.
Chester extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Johnston City, 56-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the Bryan Lee's team.
