Softball Recap: Northwestern Wins Going Away Against Graham Local

Northwestern hadn't done well against Graham Local recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 21-10 victory. Considering the Warriors have won three matchups by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Azzy Hammer was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those doubles were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Shaw, who went 3-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Northwestern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Northwestern's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3. As for Graham Local, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwestern will challenge Jonathan Alder at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Graham Local, they will take on Tecumseh at 5:15 a.m. on Friday. The Arrows have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.86 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
