Basketball Game Preview: Garinger Wildcats vs. Charlotte Catholic Cougars

Garinger is 0-7 against Charlotte Catholic since January of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Garinger Wildcats challenge the Charlotte Catholic Cougars at 7:30 p.m.

Garinger is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Independence on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Garinger had to suffer through a 75-45 loss at the hands of Independence. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while the Patriots are ranked 28th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Charlotte Catholic). They breezed by Rocky River to the tune of 102-65 on Friday. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Charlotte Catholic has also been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which somehow still isn't as good as their 16-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.4 points per game. As for Garinger, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-16.

Garinger was dealt a bruising 78-25 defeat at the hands of Charlotte Catholic when the teams last played back in January. Can Garinger avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
