Basketball Game Preview: Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers vs. Valor Academy

The Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers will face off against Valor Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Sun Valley Magnet didn't have too much trouble with Lake Balboa College Prep as they won 66-49.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valor Academy). They put the hurt on Discovery with a sharp 65-42 win on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Valor Academy has posted since January 26, 2024.

Sun Valley Magnet better focus on containing Maliqq Van Arsdale and Maliqui Van Arsdale as the pair were huge in Valor Academy's win. Maliqq went 8 for 20 en route to 20 points and four steals, while Maliqui dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Maliqui has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times he's played. David Quiroa was another key player, putting up ten points.

Sun Valley Magnet's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Valor Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.

Sun Valley Magnet took their win against Valor Academy in their previous meeting back in January by a conclusive 80-59. Will Sun Valley Magnet repeat their success, or does Valor Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
