Basketball Recap: College Prep & Leadership Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Cornerstone Charter last Friday, College Prep & Leadership Academy came back down to earth. The College Prep & Leadership Academy Royals took a 76-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop McGuinness Villains on Monday. The Royals have struggled against the Villains recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, College Prep & Leadership Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bryce Mckenzie went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to five assists and three steals. Mckenzie is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last five games he's played. Marlon Carson was another key player, putting up 12 points and five assists.

The defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 18-5. As for Bishop McGuinness, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.

College Prep & Leadership Academy and Bishop McGuinness should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. College Prep & Leadership Academy will take on Leadership Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 147 places (134 vs. 281). College Prep & Leadership Academy is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road. Similarly, Bishop McGuinness (ranked 60th) will meet Piedmont Classical (ranked 414th) at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. College Prep & Leadership Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.7 points per game this season.
