Baseball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Raton's Winning Streak

Raton dropped their record down to 7-9 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 22-10 to the Robertson Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-7 back in March.

Azden Romero was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Raton is 5-2 when Romero posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brayden Decker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Robertson, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5-1 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Robertson's side, they got a massive performance out of Diego Maez, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Maez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Lucero, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Raton will challenge Santa Rosa at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Lions will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Robertson, they will take on St. Michael's at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
