Baseball Recap: Carmel Comes Up Short

Carmel had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 10-18 to make it five. They fell just short of the Niles Notre Dame Dons by a score of 10-9. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Corsairs of the 5-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Niles Notre Dame, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-16-1. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

For Niles Notre Dame's part, the team relied heavily on Aidan Nowak, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave Nowak a new career-high. Nathan Olivares was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

While Carmel had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
