Basketball Recap: North Putnam Gets the Win

North Putnam won the last time they faced Riverton Parke and things went their way on Tuesday too. The North Putnam Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-55 win over the Riverton Parke Panthers. The score was all tied up 26-26 at the break, but the Cougars were the better team in the second half.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Collett Sanders, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jonah Hopkins, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 18 points and eight boards.

The victory made it two in a row for North Putnam and bumps their season record up to 7-16. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.5 points across that stretch. As for Riverton Parke, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Putnam will challenge North Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. on February 25th. As for Riverton Parke, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers duke it out with the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Vermillion knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Riverton Parke likes a good challenge.
