Basketball Recap: Illini West Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Illini West entered their matchup against Mercer County on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Illini West Chargers fell to the Mercer County Golden Eagles 41-36. The Chargers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2020.

Mercer County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Molly Hofmann, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 12 points and seven boards. Hofmann has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Shadia Williams was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Illini West's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-10. As for Mercer County, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-12.

Illini West wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-26 victory against Farmington on the 16th. Mercer County has also already played their next contest, a 53-26 win against Rock Falls on the 18th.
